Addressing Climate Change in Detroit
The City of Detroit’s Climate Strategy is a framework for residents, businesses, city departments, and industry to achieve the City’s emission goals and increase resilient as climate change impacts our daily lives.
Michigan Healthy Climate Plan
The Plan is meant to identify what needs to happen for Michigan to reach carbon neutrality by 2050 with a prioritization on actions from now until 2030. It focuses most heavily on the areas where the biggest, most rapid gains in GHG reductions can be made – energy, transportation, and buildings. The Plan strongly emphasizes environmental justice to ensure Michigan’s climate strategies uplift every portion of the state, including individuals and communities that have borne the brunt of climate impacts and are at the greatest risk of being left behind in the transition ahead. It also spotlights decarbonization strategies that will yield significant health, economic, and other benefits.
Detroit Future City ‘The State of Economic Equity in Detroit’ and Economic Equity Dashboard
The Economic Equity Dashboard identifies 22 indicators across several focus areas that illustrate the inequities that exist across the city and broadly within metro Detroit by race/ethnicity as well as by geography. Updated indicators show the following: There was improvement in capital access for small businesses, vacancy rates, the homeownership rate and cost burden by income. Median household income and average home values remained steady, hampering upward mobility into the middle class. Job growth, the labor market, life expectancy and educational competency weakened in the city, highlighting persistent and growing inequities that show the hard-hitting impact of the pandemic, particularly for Black Detroiters.
